Gaming PC hardware is gradually evolving. Indeed, little by little, we’ve seen RTX 3060 (Ti) give way to RTX 4060 in Steam surveys. The same applies to the operating system, where Windows 11 is currently the most widely used OS. Now it’s time for RAM, where 32GB configurations are set to become the most numerous. Although the battle with 16 GB is still raging .
PC Gaming: 32 GB RAM, the new standard!
In its latest survey on the hardware used by gamers, Steam reveals that more and more machines are running with a total of 32 GB of memory. In any case, it’s simple: the two most common configurations are 16 GB, which still represents 41.88% of the total, but which is tending to stagnate (-0.04%), and 32 GB memory. In fact, it’s the latter that is showing the strongest momentum, with a +1.31% adoption rate over the past month.
Otherwise, more generally speaking, the typical gamer configuration is based around a PC equipped with a six-core CPU, typically a Ryzen 5 x600X. Although 8-core processors are very much in evidence (24.74%), they don’t represent the majority.
As far as graphics cards are concerned, once again NVIDIA has the wind in its sails, and it’s once again the RTX 4060 that’s most widely used. The mobile version also follows closely behind, with 4.43% versus 4.66% for the desktop version. Once again, it looks complicated for AMD cards.
Finally, most users are now running Windows 11, which accounts for 60.39% of machines. Windows 10 is still seriously represented: 35.08%, but the trend is downward.
In short, while CPU and GPU configurations have changed little, it’s on the memory side that the changes seem to be most pronounced. Gradually, 32 GB RAM systems are becoming the norm. This is also in line with the demands of games, which are increasingly greedy the higher the resolution or graphics quality.
