Apple has dropped a new preview for the highly anticipated second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the hit Apple TV series set in Legendary’s Monsterverse — and this time the focus is shifting from Godzilla to King Kong.
The first season followed two siblings unraveling their family’s connection to the shadowy organization known as Monarch, an investigation that led them into the world of monsters and tied them to Army officer Lee Shaw (portrayed by father Kurt Russell and son Wyatt Russell, across different eras). Set between the 1950s and the present day, the story reveals Monarch’s origins and its precarious relationship with the Titans, including the original kaiju, Godzilla.
Season 2 will dive deeper into buried secrets that draw both heroes and villains back together. The new season will explore Kong’s Skull Island and introduce a mysterious coastal village where a mythical Titan emerges from the sea, according to Apple.
The Monsterverse, which began with Godzilla (2014) and continued through Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and most recently, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), serves as the anchor of the series. The franchise’s next film, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is set to premiere in 2027. As far as spectacle goes, the television show can never compete with its theatrical equivalent. But if you’re looking for a more interesting human story than would be present in the films, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tells one of the best stories in the Monsterverse.
Starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm, the 10-episode second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere globally on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026. New episodes will drop weekly through May 1, 2026.
Produced by Legendary Television, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is executive produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell (Safehouse Pictures), Chris Black, Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, and Lawrence Trilling, who directs four episodes. Black returns as showrunner for season 2, while Colville also serves as executive producer and writer on two episodes. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the original home of Godzilla, which licensed the character rights to Legendary.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will emerge on Apple TV Friday, Feb. 27, 2026.
