We’ve just learned that the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld consoles will be making their debut at Gamescom 2025, taking place August 20-24 in Cologne, Germany. On this occasion, Xbox and ASUS will be offering visitors the opportunity to try out these new references directly on their dedicated stands. Video game fans will be able to immerse themselves in a diverse selection of titles. The Xbox area will feature games such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, Roblox, Sea of Thieves and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4. In addition, the ASUS ROG booth will also feature other video game experiences, further enriching the offering.
In addition to this first demo, we hope that Microsoft will take this opportunity to unveil its ambitions to optimize Windows as an operating system dedicated to PC gamers. We already have several pieces of information confirming that the software giant is working on the subject, but that the 2 ROG Xbox consoles will enjoy the “exclusivity” of this new optimized (lightened?) Windows for some time to come.
Although the company is promoting the Xbox Full Screen Experience as promising, details of its benefits for PC users without ROG Ally consoles remain scarce. According to Microsoft, this feature promises to drastically reduce standby power consumption while freeing up up to 2 GB of RAM. On ROG Xbox Ally consoles, this reduction is as much as two-thirds of standby power consumption. A necessity in the face of unfavorable and unequivocal tests of the Lenovo console with two versions, SteamOS and Windows. However, Microsoft’s gaming strategy seems to be moving ever closer to the PC, to the detriment of proprietary design, as is still the case with the Xbox. So it’s interesting to know what the company has in mind for gamers.
Last but not least, we should note that these should be confirmed a few weeks later during Paris Games Week (October 30 to Nov. 2), where Microsoft and Asus will once again be pushing and testing their next consoles.
